You will often hear firearms trainers say that their opinions evolve over time. I am no different and I fully admit that once something better comes along I will say so. No dogma here and no industry ties. I did (and still do) like XS Big Dots. A few months after this video I learned something about my vision that I was unaware of. I have a vision condition called Keratoconus which changes the way I see light. This condition makes traditional iron sights difficult for me to pick up. It explains why I like large front sights like the Big Dot and The Trijicon HD.
I now primarily shoot RDS on defensive pistols and have put considerable time into the system. With treatment my vision has improved and I better understand the issues regarding sighting systems on firearms. Many folks talk down on the Big Dot sights but for someone with my specific set of vision issues they still work well. I still use them on some smaller firearms but have transitioned away from them in many applications. |
